Program Goals
The Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program is designed to prepare individuals from historically underrepresented communities—especially women, people of color, and veterans—for careers in the construction and building trades. The program provides high-quality, hands-on training, support services, and industry-recognized certifications to build a diverse and skilled talent pipeline ready to enter Department of Labor-registered apprenticeship programs.
Who’s Eligible?
Illinois Residents 18 and over with a High School diploma or GED.

Application Process:
- 1. Complete a Pre-Screen Assessment – Basic eligibility questions to start your application.
- 2. Fill Out the Application Form – Tell us about your background, interests, and goals.
- 3. Participate in a Standardized Interview – Conducted by program staff to assess your readiness.
- 4. Attend Orientation – Get introduced to the program, meet staff, and learn what to expect.
Participation is free, and eligible individuals may receive a stipend and wraparound support to help remove barriers to success.
